For Ugandan businesses

Hosting from next door, not from another continent

Kampala businesses do not lack for websites. What they often lack is a website anyone can maintain: a site built once by someone who has since moved on, hosted on an account nobody has the password to, with no backups and an SSL certificate that expired two years ago. The site is still up, technically, and Chrome is warning every visitor that it is not secure.

The fix is unglamorous. A real control panel you have the login for. Backups taken daily that you can restore yourself. An SSL certificate that renews without anybody remembering to do it. Email on your own domain rather than a free address on your business card. That is what we sell, and it is the same product our Kenyan customers get.

Being one border away also matters more than it sounds. Uganda and Kenya keep the same clock and both work in English, so when you open a chat at eleven on a Tuesday there is somebody there, in your working day, who can read your question and answer it.

What every plan includes

  • Free SSL certificate, renewed automatically
  • LiteSpeed web server and NVMe SSD storage
  • DirectAdmin control panel, one-click WordPress
  • Email on your own domain
  • Daily backups you can restore yourself
  • Free migration from your current host
  • Live uptime published at status page, checked every minute

Who we host in Uganda

Agriculture and export

Coffee, tea and produce exporters who need overseas buyers to find them and trust what they see.

Retail and SMEs

Kampala shops and service businesses moving from a WhatsApp-and-Facebook presence to something they own.

Schools and universities

Admissions pages, results portals and staff email, with enough mailboxes for a whole department.

NGOs and foundations

Organisations on .or.ug that need donor-facing reporting pages and a domain that looks official.

Tourism and hospitality

Lodges and tour operators around Bwindi, Murchison and the Nile whose enquiries come from abroad.

Tech and agencies

Kampala developers and studios who want a proper panel, staging space and no argument about SSH.

Where your website actually runs

We run two hosting locations: a node in Kenya and a node in the United Kingdom. New accounts go on whichever suits the site, and you can ask for a specific one. For Ugandan visitors the Kenyan node is usually the better choice, because regional traffic between Uganda and Kenya peers within East Africa instead of routing out to Europe and back.

We do not publish invented latency figures. What we do publish is our live status page, which checks the website, both hosting nodes, mail, the payment gateways and the domain registry every minute, and shows the real numbers including the bad days.

Practical notes for Uganda

  • East Africa Time, UTC+3 — the same clock as Nairobi, so our working day is your working day
  • Support is in English
  • Customers reach us on MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda like any other website
  • Serving Kampala, Entebbe, Jinja, Gulu, Mbarara, Mbale

Uganda domain names

We register Uganda's own extensions alongside .com, .org and 200+ others. These country extensions are arranged by our team rather than bought instantly at checkout, so allow one business day; you will get the invoice first and the domain confirmed once it is through. Renewal prices are shown up front — worth checking, because for some extensions the renewal is higher than the first year.

Extension Register Renew Transfer in
.co.ug KSh 5,310$40.85/yr KSh 6,750$51.92/yr KSh 6,750$51.92/yr Check
.or.ug KSh 5,310$40.85/yr KSh 6,840$52.62/yr KSh 6,840$52.62/yr Check
.ug KSh 5,310$40.85/yr KSh 6,840$52.62/yr KSh 6,840$52.62/yr Check

Prices are read live from our catalogue, so what you see here is what you pay. Not sure which to pick? How to choose a domain name applies just as well outside Kenya.

Paying us from Uganda

What works

  • Visa, Mastercard and American Express, processed through PesaPal. This is the normal route from Uganda and needs nothing special at your end.
  • Billing in KSh or USD. Use the currency switcher in the menu; your bank converts from Ugandan shillings at its own rate.
  • Bank transfer for annual invoices and larger projects — ask on live chat and we will send the details.

What does not work, so you are not caught out

Our M-Pesa checkout is Safaricom Kenya only. MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money Uganda are not checkout options, common as they are locally. We would rather say so on this page than have you discover it at checkout.

Prices carry no VAT. If your business needs an invoice in a particular format for local accounting, ask and we will issue it that way.

Moving to Hostiko from Uganda

1

Tell us what you have

Send your current host, your domain and roughly how big the site is. Live chat is fastest.

2

We copy it across

Files, databases and email are moved onto our server and tested there while your current site stays online.

3

You check it

We give you a preview link. Nothing changes for your visitors until you are happy with it.

4

Point the domain

You update the nameservers, or we do it if the domain is with us. Migration is free on any paid plan.

Questions from Uganda

Not at the moment, and it is better you know now than at checkout. Our mobile-money integration is Safaricom M-Pesa in Kenya only; MTN Mobile Money and Airtel Money Uganda are not connected to it. From Uganda the normal route is Visa, Mastercard or American Express through our PesaPal checkout, which needs nothing special at your end, and for an annual invoice or a bigger project we will send bank transfer details if you ask on live chat.

The live figure is in the table above, but read the renewal column as well as the registration one — for Ugandan extensions the renewal is higher than the first year, and we would rather show you both than surprise you in twelve months. We register .ug, .co.ug and .or.ug; these are arranged by our team rather than bought instantly at checkout, so allow about a business day.

Faster than it would be from a European or American host, because we run a node in Kenya and regional traffic peers within East Africa rather than routing out and back. We deliberately do not print a millisecond figure on this page, because it depends on your visitor's network and anyone quoting a single number for a whole country is guessing. What we do publish is our status page, updated every minute, showing the real state of the website, both hosting nodes, mail and payments.

Usually, yes, and it is a common situation. If you still control the domain we can rebuild the hosting side around it; if the site is live we can often copy what is publicly served even without panel access. Start a live chat with your domain name and we will tell you honestly what can and cannot be recovered before you pay anything.

Yes — Uganda and Kenya are on the same clock, so there is no offset to work around. Live chat is staffed by people in Nairobi through the business day, and tickets are answered outside those hours. You are not being routed to an overnight call centre reading from a script.

Both. Hosting, domains, email and SSL are the core product, and our team also builds sites through our website design service if you do not have one or the current one has been neglected. A lot of Ugandan customers arrive wanting hosting, discover the existing site cannot be saved, and have us rebuild it — either way the hosting works the same.
