Recommended for Most Churches

A small shared hosting plan covers everything a typical Kenyan church needs.

Sermons, livestreams and the disk space nobody warns you about

This is the one thing that catches churches out, so it is worth being plain about it. Audio is cheap to host and video is not. A 45 minute sermon saved as a spoken word MP3 comes to roughly 20MB, so a full year of weekly sermons is about 1GB. That sits comfortably on any plan.

The same sermon as a 720p video is 500MB to 1GB on its own. Upload a few months of those and you will fill the largest plan we sell, and every person who watches one pulls that file across the network again.

The answer most churches land on, and the one we recommend, is to put video on YouTube or Facebook where hosting and bandwidth cost you nothing, then embed the player on your own site. Visitors see it on your page, your archive stays browsable, and your hosting only carries the page around it. Keep the audio on your site if you want a downloadable sermon library, because audio is small enough to be no trouble at all.

Running a church site when nobody on the team is technical

Most church websites in Kenya are built by a volunteer, and most are inherited by someone else within a couple of years. Three things make that handover painless, and all three are decided at the start.

  • Register the domain in the church name, not a member name. It is the single most common problem we are asked to untangle: the person who set everything up has moved, and the domain is on their personal account. Put the church as the registrant and the church office address on the record from day one.
  • Use an address on your own domain for the account. Something like [email protected], which the next person in the role can be given access to, rather than a private Gmail that leaves with its owner.
  • Know that the backups are automatic. Every site is backed up daily and kept for seven days, so a volunteer experimenting with the site cannot do permanent damage. That safety net is what makes it reasonable to let a willing helper learn on it.

Church Hosting FAQ

A small church website on Hostiko shared hosting starts at KSh 80/month, plus the domain: .or.ke is KSh 1,300 to register and KSh 1,500 a year to renew. Many churches run a complete site for under KSh 4,000 a year.

Yes. You can integrate M-Pesa Lipa Na M-Pesa (Till/Paybill) directly on your site so members give from anywhere. If you use WordPress, plug-and-play donation forms with M-Pesa are available via our M-Pesa integration service.

Audio sermons play perfectly from the hosting itself. For long-form video, we recommend embedding from your YouTube channel — it saves bandwidth and gives you free streaming forever.

We treat registered churches and ministries the same as any small business. Our prices are already among the lowest in Kenya. For multi-branch churches or denominations, contact us for a custom quote.

Yes — we register and host .or.ke, .co.ke, .ke and .com domains. .or.ke is the conventional choice for Kenyan ministries. .or.ke is KSh 1,300 to register and KSh 1,500 a year to renew.

Most churches use our Website Design service: we build a clean, modern church website (home, about, sermons, events, contact, give online) for a one-time fee. After that, updates are easy from a simple admin panel.

We would advise against it, and we would rather say so than sell you storage you do not need. A single 720p sermon video is 500MB to 1GB, so an archive fills any plan quickly and every viewer re-downloads it. Put video on YouTube or Facebook, which costs nothing, and embed the player on your page. Sermon audio is a different matter: an MP3 is about 20MB, so a whole year is roughly 1GB and perfectly fine to host here.

Nothing, provided the domain and the hosting are registered in the church name rather than a personal one, and the account email is on your own domain. That is the most common tangle we are asked to sort out. If your site is already set up the other way round we can help you move it into the church name.

You can add a giving page that shows your existing paybill or till number and explains how to send, which is what most Kenyan churches do and what most givers expect. We host that page. We do not process donations ourselves and no money passes through us, so nothing sits between your members and your church account.

Either works and both are respected. Many churches prefer .or.ke because it signals a non commercial organisation. As a guide, .or.ke is KSh 1,300 to register and KSh 1,500 a year to renew. .co.ke is KSh 1,200 to register and KSh 1,700 a year to renew.

Yes. Branches usually run as subdomains such as westlands.yourchurch.or.ke, which cost nothing extra and all sit in one control panel. If a branch needs a completely separate domain instead, that needs a plan with more than one website slot.

Far less than people expect. A well sized photo for the web is around 200KB, so even a thousand of them is under 250MB. Photos are almost never the reason a church runs out of room. Video is.
